The Export Control Classification Specialist is responsible for managing and ensuring the accurate classification of products for export control purposes. They will work closely with various departments to assess and classify items according to relevant export control regulations and guidelines. The ECCN Specialist plays a critical role in maintaining compliance with export laws and regulations, mitigating risks, and facilitating international trade activities.

YOUR TASKS:

• Conduct thorough reviews and assessments of products, technologies, and software to determine their export control classification numbers (ECCNs);
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including compliance, export control, engineering, legal, product management and sales;
• Interpret and apply regulatory guidelines and classification methodologies;
• Stay abreast of changes in export control regulations;
• Assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and training programs related to classification and compliance.
• Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on classification-related matters;
• Conduct periodic audits and assessments to evaluate ECCN classifications, identify potential areas of non-compliance, and recommend corrective actions as needed;
• Serve as a subject matter expert on ECCN classification matters during internal and external audits, investigations, and inquiries;
• Foster positive relationships with regulatory agencies, trade associations, and industry partners;
• Maintain accurate records and documentation related to various classifications, including product descriptions, technical specifications, and classification decisions.
  

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING:

• Bachelor's degree in international trade, business administration, engineering, technical or a related field;
• Advanced degree or professional certifications in export compliance would be preferred;
• Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in export compliance, export classification, or related fields (product management, export and logistics), preferably in a regulated industry such as aerospace, defense, technology, or manufacturing;
• In-depth knowledge of export control regulations and classification methodologies;
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail;
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• Proven ability to work independently;
• Familiarity with export compliance management systems (ECMS) and trade automation platforms is a plus;
• Understanding of global supply chain dynamics
